Stars in Drama

They are movies that make us cry, angry and sometimes speechless. While there’s nothing wrong with indulging in a good comedy that will leave you feeling good, one of the most exhilarating experiences of watching a movie is watching a great dramatic movie. Whether it’s a war movie that leaves you thinking or a relationship movie that will leave you in tears, good dramas can be an exhilarating experience. From old time classics like Gone in the Wind to modern day marvels like The Departed, dramas have the power to completely change the way that you think. It’s for this reason that dramas tend to dominate the Academy Awards. Very rarely will you see a comedy win an award for Best Movie and many people contend that dramatic movies represent the highwater mark of movies. While there have certainly been numerous comedies that deserve the classification of classic, the most powerful comedy is unable to match the sheer thrills of the best dramatic movie.

Although many people have found that mediocre dramatic movies have tested their appreciation of the genre, the best dramas make an immediate impression. One of the most endearing thing about dramatic movies are the fact that they encompass such a wide array of subject matter. From gangster movies to historic epics to personal mediations, dramas are even able to encompass aspects of fantasy like in the popular Mexican movie, Pan’s Labyrinth. The only requirement of a dramatic movie is to tell a serious story well. Whether it’s a movie about a post apocalyptic future or a movie about three women trying to avoid the pitfalls and dangers of modern urban living, dramas are a fantastic meal for the brain and the eyes. While there are a number of important factors involved in the creation of a great dramatic movie, arguably the most important part of a dramatic movie is the acting. Although comedies tend to make more money than dramas, there’s a reason why actors continue to turn up for strange dramatic movies. That’s because acting in a great dramatic role is the ultimate prize for actors. Look at the winners of the Academy Award for Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actress and Best Supporting Actor and you will see that the vast majority of award winning recipients have received accolades for their roles in dramas. Whether it’s filming an epic death scene or an exciting cross-testimonial scene, acting in a great drama is the reason why many of today’s most popular actors get into acting in the first place. For this reason, we are giving praise to the actors that make us laugh, cry and happy. These stars of drama have consistently shown their acting ability by stealing dramatic movies. In addition to helping craft effective dramas, these actors and their characters often make an impression on us that outlast the time that we initially watched the movie.

At a time where people are increasingly fixated on the private lives of our stars, we will examine the reasons why we are initially interested in these stars – their acting work. When you are talking about classic characters, it is hard to ignore the work of Edward Norton. Edward Norton’s acting career started with a resounding bang. From his first notable role as an altar boy accused of murdering a priest in Primal Fear to his chilling starring turn as a reformed Neo-Nazi in the generational classic, American History X, Edward Norton has shown himself to be one of the best dramatic actors of his time. Nominated twice for an Academy Award, edward norton has been joined by a number of other critically acclaimed actors that are doing fantastic work in today’s modern dramas. Two of the most popular actors of this time are Johnny Depp and Leonardo DiCaprio. While both of these stars are noted for their attractive appearance, johnny depp and leonardo dicaprio have consistently proven their acting ability in their work. Well known for his quirky acting skills, johnny depp movies allow Depp to showcase his strong acting ability that showcase his unique ability to add a bit of personal pizzazz to his work. While leonardo dicaprio rose to fame based on his appearance in the most financially successful movie of all-time, Titanic, he has recently been known as the muse for legendary director Martin Scorsese. With the ability to infuse charm into his characters while also showcasing a willingness to inject some villainous intensity when needed, Leonardo DiCaprio has graduated from pretty boy to top actor. Other actors that we examine for their dramatic acting strengths include Tom Cruise, Tom Hanks, Christian Bale, and Jamie Foxx.

Before he was known for his crazy antics and his devotion to Scientology, tom cruise was one of the world’s most popular dramatic actors. Rather than relying on his boyishly good looks, Cruise had gained respect for working with some of the most respected movie directors of our time. While Tom Hanks may not be working as much as he used to, tom hanks is remembered for being the first actor since Spencer Tracy to win back to back Best Actor awards due to his memorable acting in Philadelphia and Forrest Gump. Although they may seem inexperienced compared to Cruise and Hanks, christian bale and jamie foxx represent the robust future of dramatic actors. Christian Bale made a startling impression as a 1980s psychopath in American Psycho, while Jamie Foxx has already reached the pinnacle of acting with his capture of the Academy Award for Best Acting in the bio-pic, Ray. Of course, great dramatic acting isn’t just limited to the boys. While it may not pay off to be a drama queen when you’re young, these drama queens have delighted audiences over the years. When you talk about great dramatic actresses, you have to start off by examining the career of Meryl Streep. A 14 time Academy Award nominated actress and two time winner, meryl streep has amazed audiences with her ability to perfect numerous accents and for completely slipping into character.

Although it would be difficult for anybody to reach those limits, Streep’s co-star in The Devil Wears Prada, Anne Hathaway has the potential of becoming a dramatic screen dynamo in her own right. Currently, Hollywood is full of ambitious young actresses like Jessica Biel, Natalie Portman, Emma Watson and Jessica Alba that may delight the eyes of men around the world but have also gained the respect of women for their strong acting ability. These starlets will be profiled extensively as are other current stars of drama like Academy Award winners Angelina Jolie and Halle Berry. We also examine a variety of stars of drama that will delight you!
