You may be wondering, what exactly is a gluten?  Well, a gluten refers to a mixture of proteins that are often combined with starch.  This ingredient is often found in such foods as: barley, oats, rye, triticale, and wheat.  Although medical experts cannot completely conclude the link between glutens and its harmful effect on some people’s guts, they have determined that a Gluten Free Diet is essential in treating these conditions.

When you embark on a gluten free diet, you will obviously be eating food that contains little to no amounts of glutens.  As a result, the gluten free diet prohibits the consumption of regular bread and pastas.  However, there are a number of grains and starches that can still be eaten in a gluten free diet.  These include such foods as: corn, millet, potatoes, rice, sweet potatoes, tapioca, and yams.
