Low Cholesterol Diet

As you continue to search for the right diet for you, it is important to remember what is important in a diet.  While diets are generally used to help lose weight, it is important that you choose a diet that will also be healthy.  However, for some people the health results of a diet supercedes everything.  For example, if you are concerned with your body’s cholesterol level, you may find that the Low Cholesterol Diet is perfect for you.

One of the most important things that a person should monitor is their cholesterol level.  If your body has high blood cholesterol, it means that you are increasing your chance of obtaining heart disease.  The dangerous part of high cholesterol is that it doesn’t manifest itself in visible symptoms.  Make sure that you ask your doctor to check your cholesterol level and prevent high cholesterol by going on a low cholesterol diet.

Before you embark on a low cholesterol diet, it is important to distinguish between the two main types of blood cholesterol: low density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol and high density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol.  It is important to note that HDL cholesterol is essential for your body.  Often known as good cholesterol, HDL cholesterol helps your body remove excess cholesterol and reduces the risk of heart disease.  On the flip side, LDL cholesterol (or bad cholesterol) deposits excess cholesterol to your arteries, which can eventually restrict blood flow.

As a result, low cholesterol diets emphasize eating foods that are high in HDL cholesterol while restricting food that contains LDL cholesterol.  A Low Cholesterol Diet emphasizes reducing food that contains high fat levels.  One of the underlying principles of this diet is to replace food that contains unsaturated fat with food that contains saturated fat.  Additionally, it is extremely important to restrict the amount of food you eat that are high in cholesterol.  For an alternative you should choose food that contain complex carbohydrates, for example food that contain a large amount of starch and fiber.

A low cholesterol diet menu would include such foods as lean meats, skinless poultry, and fish and shellfish.  Additionally, it is recommended that you eat a large amount of fruits (particularly oranges and pears), vegetables (especially carrots and Brussles sprouts), and whole grain foods.  For your dairy products, you should eat either food that is fat free.

Of course, your low cholesterol diet recommends that you restrict foods that are high in cholesterol especially organ meats like liver and egg yolks.  By following the low cholesterol diet, you will find that you will be doing your health a huge favor.  Additionally, the low cholesterol diet emphasizes responsible eating habits that can result in weight loss.  Follow these recommendations for the low cholesterol diet, and you will find that getting healthy is easier than you ever could have imagined!
