Low Carb Diet

Are you ready to live a happier and healthier life?  Of course you are, no one will say no to that question.  Still, there is the question of why there aren’t more people embarking on a healthy eating plan.  That is because there are so many healthy diet plans and differing theories about what will help you lose weight without sacrificing your health.

One of the most popular theories of dieting are low-carbohydrate diets.  Low Carb Diets have a long history that some people trace back to the beginning of humanity.  However, we won’t go too far into history to discuss the basis of low carb diets theories and their pros and cons.

Low-carb diets refer to diets that emphasize restricting the number of carbohydrates a person should eat.  This is because proponents of low carb diets strongly feel that by reducing the number of carbohydrates a person eats will result in decreasing a person’s blood insulin levels.  Many nutritionists that support a Low Carb Diet argue that if you eat a large number of carbohydrates, that your body’s blood insulin levels will increase, which results in negatively impacting your body’s ability to burn off stored fat.

One of the most fascinating things about low-carb diets are how many there are.  Starting with the ketogenic diet developed in the 1920s by the Johns Hopkins Medical Center to treat epilepsy, there have been a variety of Low Carb Diet Plans that have emerged.  Such past low carb diet plans include the Air Force Diet, the Drinking Man’s Diet of the 1960s and it continues to this day.  Such modern day low carb diets include the Atkins Diet, the Zone Diet, the South Beach Diet, and the Protein Power Lifeplan.

While all of these low carb diet plans differ from each other in some significant way, all low carb diets share the same base.  With low carb diets, the dieter is expected to limit the number of foods they eat that contain refined carbohydrates such as sugars and starches.  They are expected to replace these types of foods with foods that are high sources for such important nutrients as proteins, fats, and fiber.

Medical experts and nutritionists have varying opinions regarding low carbohydrate diets.  While many agree that low carb diets can produce significant weight loss in a short period of time, there are many inconclusive studies regarding these diet’s effect on your health.  Some medical experts feel that low carb diets can increase your susceptibility to such diseases and discomforts as: arthritis, constipation, and kidney failure.

However, proponents of low carb diets argue that these problems can be solved with intelligent eating.  Additionally, many medical experts agree that low carb diets helps prevent weight gain and is nutritionally sound.  By following the low carb diets meal plan, you may find that a low carb diet is the key to unlocking a healthy life!
