MOM - Not Otherwise Specified
On raising a son on the autism spectrum, progressive politics, pop culture, and coffee addiction

Trevor Scotty Simmons is my cousin. Trevor Scotty Simmons is also my brother. Trevor Scotty Simmons is autistic. Are story began when my irresponsible aunty decided that it would be a wise idea to conceive a baby with her boyfriend of 6 months. While she was pregnant she refused to stop doing drugs and drinking alchohol and it took it's toll. When Trevor was born he was the perfect size and height he seemed like an average newborn. Trevor's life began it's decent when child and family services made an unexpected visit to my aunty's house and discovered that within reach of Trevor's 2 year old arms were drugs of many sorts. My mom loves my aunty-at times but even my mother had no sympathy for her when they took Trevor away from her home. Trevor was put into the foster child circut and was placed into a home where he seemed happy. My mother knew that it wasn't right for any child to be left in foster care so she took him under her wing and adopted him. That is how Trevor came to live in our house. My mother and I had been trying for months to teach him colours and such but he was grasping any new concepts. My mom knew something was wrong because it hadn't been this hard when she taught me these things. When we took Trevor to get an analysis the doctor confirmed what we had feared. Autism. We have been dealing with this to the best of our abilities and with my older sister and my step-dad we're working on teaching Trevor-as well as my two younger brothers- anything we can.
