Ghost Town Gallery More than 1700 high quality pictures of Ghost Towns from California, Arizona, Nevada, Oregon, New Mexico, Utah, Idaho and Montana. Great map to locate all ghost towns.
Photos and slide shows of Nevada ghost towns, old mining camps, wildlife, and scenery. The photos shown are from my collection of photos taken over the past couple of years. My hobby is exploring old Nevada ghost towns and studying their history. I also like to explore old mines, usually with my son, another avid Nevada history buff and explorer. Access to many of these old historic sites require a 4WD vehicle, or high clearance vehicle.
Nevada has over 600 old ghost towns and old mining camps. Not much remains of many, just some old crumbling walls, collapsed wood buildings, or concrete foundations/slabs. Many were dismantled and moved, some dismantled by scavengers for building materials. Wood was scarce in the deserts of Nevada, and not much was left behind when a town was vacated.
When exploring old mines, my son and I use a lot of equipment. One must be real careful when exploring these old mines, many are unsafe. Many can have bad air that is undetectable, unless you carry a multi-oxygen and gas detector/monitor as we do. If you decide to explore one of these old mines, make sure you have the right equipment, and don't try it alone.
I also sell prints of my photos, and a CD of my slide shows.
This site is dedicated to preserving the history of the Randsburg Railway which operated from 1897 until 1933 in the Mojave Desert of California.
