Holistic Learning We are a family Waldorf and Enki inspired home learners exploring life and the connection between living and learning. Currently in grade 4, we have traveled the home learning path from the very beginning, and have pursued Waldorf, Enki, unschooling, and now our own blend of very Waldorf-inspired learning. We began with Oak Meadow and Christopherus Homeschool Resources. For a time I was very involved with Enki Education and used their methods and materials exclusively, then as we moved past the available Enki materials we returned to a more traditional Waldorf focus. We are also highly influenced by John Holt and the philosophy of unschooling, although we prefer it to be a soup that surrounds the rhythm of our days rather than our only method. Truly we have seen first hand the difference that a strong rhythm makes in the life of a child. My blog has a bit of everything in it: Oak Meadow, Christopherus, Enki, unschooling, A Little Garden Flower, hand work, musings, life, and love. We've even dabbled a little bit in classical education!
I am Waldorf-inspired homeschooling mother to three amazing children and wife to one incredible man. We homeschool to escape the hustle and bustle that goes along with school as well as the mainstream Go Go Go lifestyle that many Americans choose to live. We began questioning our ways several years back and brought our kids home to learn immediately. Kids are young for such a short time and it never felt good to send them off. We love what our lifestyle provides for our family. It certainly has its ups and downs…but no matter how tough it gets, it always feels good to have the kids home.
With only a bit of college and no decent education to speak of (graduated from public mainstream school), I never ever thought I could teach my kids. What I have grown to learn is that homeschooling is a lot about nurturing spirits and little about useless facts taught in school. Don’t get me wrong…we work…and our kids learn…but they are allowed to do it in their own learning style (which is different for each of them, of course!). We use a Waldorf approach in our homeschooling which basically provides our children with a holistic, well rounded, open minded education. Our days are full of hands on learning with plenty of time for play and fun. Who needs a college degree to listen to their kids…? Must be all of my street smarts!
So many kids are stressed out these days with the demanding schedules that they are required to adhere to. It is my goal to provide a loving and stress free environment for my children to learn in so they grow to be happy adults that are not tainted by the world we live in…but instead embrace it….
We are a family of five living out our real-life fairy tale... daily participating in a "happily ever after" ending. We are a Christian family using Charlotte Mason and Waldorf philiosophies, and having a blast in the process. We also love to craft using all natural materials, as that is how we like to live...naturally. We have been chasing our dreams down this path for 13 years, and though we have gotten side-tracked at times, we are trying to remain true to ouselves. We worship a King, follow a Rose, and stand in the Courts as though we have Royal blood running through our veins. We belive that the care that we show one another, our planet, and ourselves is very important, and we ought to be good stewards of those resources. Living in a way that is respectable means that as our children see us live out our lives they can respect us and trust us. We relish the fact that our children can see that we mean what we say, and that we will stand behind it...that we will stand behind them...forever.
Waldorf-Inspired Homeschoolers This community was created in May 2007. We hope that as it grows, it can serve as a tool to connect families who have chosen to homeschool using Waldorf-inspired methods, either exclusively or in conjunction with other educational methods (unschooling, Charlotte Mason, etc.,) so that we may support and inspire each other.
