National Cigar History Museum The National Cigar History Museum is the culmination of nearly 60 years of collecting and research. Visitors get a free fascinating and sometimes funny look at the history of cigars and the birth of modern advertising. Covers from pre-Columbian days to the present with the emphasis on 1762-1962. Focus is on the 250,000 U.S. cigar factories, plus the factories of Canada and Cuba. A huge time-line with many hundreds of entries lets you follow important events, companies and laws. The Museum's 193 (current and growing) exhibits contain more than 4,500 photos. Exhibits include how and where cigars were made, packaged and sold, and the various types of factories. All types of boxes & tins are pictured and described, dozens of laws affecting cigars and boxes are described, and all known information on how to date a US, Canadian or Cuban cigar box is presented in an easy-to-follow format. A detailed look at advertising premiums given away by the industry provides the web's most accurate information regarding so-called "felts" and "silks" as well as leathers, buttons and other premiums. All the tools used in cigar making are pictured and identified. Common fakes offered on ebayŠ are pictured and identified. The most complete list of Cuban brands (more than 3,700) is included as is the largest glossary of cigar-related terms. A huge bibliography with more than 1,000 cigar related books, magazine articles and government documents is also available. The half-finished gallery of cigar labels is designed to give visitors a look at the 50 or so major themes, including bad brand names, stolen brands, sports, women, animals, war, and lots more. Other exhibits include folk art and other items made from boxes, censorship and boxes, children and cigars, and industry efforts to make cigars "safe" to smoke.
