Nairobi Swimming Association
The Happenings in Kenyan swimming specifically at The Nairobi Swimming Association and in Kenya in General with relevant input from other sources in the rest of the World. Kenyan Swimming has recently had a huge Boost by the breaking of an Olympic Record by one of the Top Swimmers even if it was for a few minutes that the record was held - This was a HUGE achievement NOT ONLY for Jason Dunford BUT for Kenyan Swimming. With this sort of success, WHY is Kenyan Swimming NOT making a bigger impact on Kenyan Youth? WHY is Swimming NOT being promoted in ALL parts of this country - INDEED WHY isn't sport given the sort of emphasis that it deserves? WHY DON'T we have a fully fledged Sports Stadium in Every constituency in Kenya? That is a Stadium with at least an Athletics Track & Field, A Football Filed, A Basketball Court and a Swimming Pool for a minimum? WHY DON'T we use the Kazi Kwa Vijana Project to promote sports by conducting training Clinics to the Vijana (they get paid to attend) and then they can be released to the Field to train the Youth in the various sports? Swimming Would gain a great deal from an initiative like this. We could have 1,000 young people trained inLife Saving and given basic Swimming Teaching skills so that they could be sent out to teach the youth. This way you will have created Jobs that have a future instead of getting these young people to collect Garbage and doing what the Councils should be doing! Kenya Swimming Federation - are you there? Created by Mutinda Kisio

My attempts at documenting the British Colonial Experience in Kenya- from a grassroots perspective. Most of my sources are the elderly mamas and wazee I have interviewed, most in the Kisumu area. However, I also draw on history, current events, as well as related stories and topics around the globe. I am originally from the US, and a recent graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Living in Kenya for the second time, I hoping to dialogue with other bloogers about colonialism, racial and economic justice, and cross-cultural affairs. I was inspired to explore this subject after living in three very different parts of Kenya (Nairobi, outskirts of Kisumu, and rural Kitui) and not being able to communicate well with elderly people due to language. I also seriously re-examined my views on racial justice after returning to the U.S.- and I hope to use this project as an educational tool on that subject. Finally, images of Africa in the western world are distorted. With this project and the voices of the people I've interviewed, I hope to paint a more accurate, if not positive, picture of Kenya and Africa as a whole- as a person who has lived in both places.

Lmaa Online Archive is dedicated to the memory of the late Maj.(Rtd) S.S. Lemasagarai (1966-2008), whose life was in many ways a shining example to the people of the Samburu tribe of Kenya. Background Major Lema, as he was famously known, was born in the prowling plains of Samburu District. He attended Baragoi Primary school and Maralal High for Primary and Secondary school respectively. He later attended Kericho High School for his a'levels, after which he joined the Kenya Army Officer Cadets battalion. He went on to lead an illustrious career as an officer in the Kenya Army and rose to the highest rank of a Major. http://www.tunecore.com/music/lmaaonline Musical Career After retiring from the army, Major embarked on a revolutionary path of being a musician. In his own words, "the entire process - thought, reflection, decision making and action took less than a month to complete." Major's musical career was not just another whim born out of a desire to join the increasingly popular bandwagon of Kenyan musicians; rather, it was born out of a psycho-mental and spiritual research. Using his home environment to form a comparison criteria, he posed such questions as why his beloved Samburu was in such a degraded situation? why was it impoverished yet is relatively blessed with resources? His concerns were endless. To widen the scope of his research, he tried to find out why different parts of Kenya and indeed the world had such huge disparities of wealth and what could done to salvage places like Samburu and their populations? He stated, "lest a decisive decision is made right now, the result is likely to be extinction!" Lemasammy's musical philosophy, which sought to educate the Samburu masses on all aspects of their lives, is what this blog tries to emphasize. In outlining his ambitions, he describes how he first arrived at producing his first music : "Along my laborious journey in relentless pursuit of the terminally desired objectives, the angel of God touched my enormously troubled and bleeding heart, when the entire 'thing' condensed into a single ray focusing right at the center of my first ever produced music album!" LMAA VOL 1 is a living manuscript on the kind of Samburu that Major would have liked to see. Please find out more from the Widget "LMAA VOL1"
