Welcome To My World
I'm Michelle, I live in Northwest Indiana. I am married to a wonderful man named Rob. We have 3 great kids. Tierra is 12, Isaiah is 7 and Xander is 5. Our middle child Isaiah has an autism spectrum disorder. It's been an up and down rollercoaster. We are currently using biomed to treat Isaiah's autism and have seen a huge improvment. I would now classify him as high functioning. He's such a sweet loving little mama's boy. He wants to be a principal when he grows up, and he wants me to be the schools nurse so we can work together! I work full time at a hospital. Mostly on a med/surg floor, but I'm in a float pool, so I do all the floors. I'm a realistic person, I'm not a super mom...I blog about life the way it really is, the good the bad and the ugly. I cook Gluten free Casein Free meals. I post my menu every monday, and love to share and try new recipes. I love organizing my house, it calms me to have a place for everything and have everything in it's place, I usually share my weekly tackles on Tuesdays. Wednesday's I share something random to give you a little window into my world. Friday's I try to review a product or food I've tried that week. I also throw in things about family, work, and life in general...as well as important news info. I look forward to seeing you there!

My name is Alex Chan and I am 24 years old. I have just completed my B. Sc. degree in Kinesiology @ the University of Saskatchewan, Canada. My area of interest is to continuously research and further identify the real needs of autistic children concerning their engagement in physical activities. With more and more children diagnosed with autism, the need for more specialists to service them is in obvious demand. Autism spectrum disorder is known as a form of neuro-developmental disorder, specifically dealing with psychological, sociological, and behavioural issues (Tasman, 2004). Children with autism will experience challenges in areas of communication and social interaction, as well as having restricted interest and have stereotyped repetitive behaviours (Rosser, Sandt & Frey, 2005). These behaviours could include repetitive motor mannerism such as finger flicking and whole body rocking (Tasman, 2004). They may also develop challenging behaviour such as screaming, hitting, and biting, as well creating substantial obstacles for specialists such as adapted physical educators who attempt to correct any changes seen (Crollick, Mancil, & Stropka, 2006). Such characteristics in addition to the lack of the sharing of enjoyment, interests, and enjoyments greatly affects their efficiency in motor learning and increases the difficulty participating in group activities (Tasman, 2004). Many children with autism who experience much difficulty conforming proper motor skills required for a physical activity and the inability to read body language will experience frustration, thus often chooses to disengage and withdrew from the activity with revulsion. From years of research, physical educators began to realize the seriousness of such issue in which these children could be at health risk as a result of physically inactive (Pan & Frey, 2005). Physical educators then began to implement innovative ideas and strategies combined into intervention programs in attempt to examine the significance and effectiveness of programs. One of the primary focuses of these programs is to develop better motor skills and social skills, in specific, visual cues and the ability to identify body language effectively in purpose to decrease stereotypic behaviour, hyperactivity, aggression, self-injury, and destructiveness (Crollick, Mancil, & Stropka, 2006). By improving these skills, Todd & Reid (2008) suggested that increased in physical activity participation should be evident.

Trevor Scotty Simmons is my cousin. Trevor Scotty Simmons is also my brother. Trevor Scotty Simmons is autistic. Are story began when my irresponsible aunty decided that it would be a wise idea to conceive a baby with her boyfriend of 6 months. While she was pregnant she refused to stop doing drugs and drinking alchohol and it took it's toll. When Trevor was born he was the perfect size and height he seemed like an average newborn. Trevor's life began it's decent when child and family services made an unexpected visit to my aunty's house and discovered that within reach of Trevor's 2 year old arms were drugs of many sorts. My mom loves my aunty-at times but even my mother had no sympathy for her when they took Trevor away from her home. Trevor was put into the foster child circut and was placed into a home where he seemed happy. My mother knew that it wasn't right for any child to be left in foster care so she took him under her wing and adopted him. That is how Trevor came to live in our house. My mother and I had been trying for months to teach him colours and such but he was grasping any new concepts. My mom knew something was wrong because it hadn't been this hard when she taught me these things. When we took Trevor to get an analysis the doctor confirmed what we had feared. Autism. We have been dealing with this to the best of our abilities and with my older sister and my step-dad we're working on teaching Trevor-as well as my two younger brothers- anything we can.
