I am a Speech/Language Pathologist with 25 years' experience in a variety of settings including the public schools, early childhood education, facilities for the severely developmentally disabled, hospitals, and home health care. For the last 5 years, I have worked in numerous long-term care facilties in four states helping to establish, organize, and improve programs for residents with dementia. I am currently employed in two facilities in Ohio, and continuing to expand and enhance my education in the area, specializing in non-verbal communication in end-stage dementia. Frequently, I find myself in the position of providing information and support to those diagnosed with dementia, their caregivers, and other professionals. It is my hope to provide more of the same here, as well as to expand my own understanding. This will be done through informative articles, reviews, and opinions. (Other features will be added over time.) Comments and discussion are welcome, as well as recommendations regarding content and site construction.

Blog of a Physician and former Caregiver to his mother. When Diagnosed with AD in 1979, Dr. Sivak became the primary caregiver to his mother at age 17. Blog's mission is to present information and provide support to caregiver's of AD victims. The blog presents atypical and unusual insights into the disease from sonone who has been on both sides of the devastating process.

I am a 60-year-old male physician specializing in psychiatry. I was diagnosed with Lewy Body Disease (LBD) in October 2007. Much of the information on LBD and dementia is provided by the caregivers and the difficulties encountered in cacommunity for us. I would like to promote further education and research for this disease as well as to share my experiences, thoughts, issues, reactions and feelings with caregivers and to those who also suffer from LBD and other dementias. Hopefully, this blog will provide another point of view – first-hand information from a victim of LBD. I dedicate this blog to my lovely wife, Pamela. Her continuing daily love and support keep me going and she has helped bcommunity me to this positive turning point in my life. I could not do it without her. Thank you Sweetheart! “I can do all things through Him who strengthens me“. Philippians 4:13 D. E. Thomas, M.D.
