Some Iraq Veteran
Iraq veteran spouts off on all things military. Topics include: veterans' benefits, war news, military life, military history, and damn near anything else I feel like writing about that fits within the theme. Owned and operated by me, Dacker, a former combat arms Soldier. I spent years in private industry before joining up after 9/11, and fully intended to return to civilian life after my time was up. That gave me an interesting perspective during my time in the Army and Iraq ... and the power to be a smartass junior officer who took care of Soldiers without worrying about a career. I'm back in civilian life now and eager to share my thoughts and opinions on things affecting service members, and to hear yours. SomeIraqVeteran.com is intended to appeal to anyone who has served, is serving, is considering serving, or just plain likes cool military stuff. Providing you with military news, videos and original content is my goal. Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines, Coast Guardies - it doesn't matter. One team one fight.

A collection of musings from a patriotic former US Navy nuke. I generally have a lot of fluffernutter in my head and I've found that blogging tends to clear it out. I'm always thinking about our troops, the events leading up to and after September 11, 2001, my time in the Navy, the places I've travelled, and a lot of other pretty random things. I get a lot of inspiration from courageous bloggers like the people at Blackfive, Boston Maggie, and Major's Perspective. They help keep me sane, centered, and thinking. I truly believe that if nothing ever changes then nothing ever changes. The best people I've known in my life are the ones who ask questions and stimulate debate. I hope that people reading my blog get some enjoyment out of it, and if I can stimulate just one person to think about something they hadn't thought of before then I'll be doing pretty well I think. Happy reading. .

A chronicle of modern warfare from a former Marine infantry sergeant. Hit-Haditha Corridor, al-Anbar Province, Iraq 2004-2005. Ben Christensen is a writer who re-enlisted into his old Marine reserve unit when he thought they would be deploying to Iraq. Even though he had his honorable discharge and a comfortable career as a high school English teacher, and a wife and two sons with another son on the way, he re-enlisted in February 2004 and received deployment orders in April. Christensen is named after his father's young uncle, Benjamin Christensen, who was killed in northern Italy 20 days before the end of World War II, where he served as an infantryman in the 10th Mountain Division, 86th Infantry, India Company third platoon. As a Marine sergeant, Christensen went off adventuring, thinking he would not see any action, but wound up as the senior fireteam leader and breacher for second platoon, Charlie Company, Task Force 1-23, 7th Regimental Combat Team, 1st MARDIV. He saw some moderate fighting and participated in several successful raids on local Sunni insurgent leaders in and around Hit and Haditha.
