Art from Within If you love color and brights, my site is for you. My work is often described as 'very colorful' to 'really loud.' And I like it that way.
I enjoy dyeing, discharging, printing, stamping, drawing & painting of fabric. I also like to embellish, often with unusual items like metal washers or tea bag labels. What ever seems appropriate to the piece. And I am never quite sure when to say when.
Although I started college as an Art Major, I got married and started a family and never finished my degree. I ended up with a career as a bookkeeper before ending up working in a Library. Along the way I never gave up my love of art, and even taught and coordinated a parent run art program at my sons school.
Now as a single mom with a full-time job, I have to make sure that I carve out time for me to make art, which can be very difficult. Fortunately I am blessed with having very understanding children, and they allow me time and space to work. The animals are not always as understand, but usually if I play with them for five or ten minutes they let me work.
Hope you enjoy the art and musings...
Creating new artwork and installatons, writing for Popular Patchwork whilst trying to look after three lovely little monsters, means there is always something going on
A glimpse into the creative life of artist Cynthia Wenslow.
I work in several media, including art quilts, mixed media collage, digital and film photography, and watercolor and acrylic painting. In fact, I find myself learning and incorporating new techniques in all these media. Ultimately, what matters most to me is the process. Once a piece is finished and I have learned what I needed to from it, I am quite happy to sell it and have it go to a new home!
I try to keep my blog mainly about art in general, and my art in particular. Subjects that I cover on my blog include: creative process; studio design and set-up; thoughts on art; calls for entries; exhibitions that I may enter or am considering entering; publication and acceptance notices; fundraisers that I donate artwork to; and many others!
My main website, to which the blog is attached, showcases a variety of my work in all the media in which I work. The content is listed by medium as I think it makes the most sense that way. Many people interested in art quilts, for example, are not really interested in photography.
I hope you enjoy my blog and stop by frequently to see what I'm up to!
