Kristen Rengren - Retroknit Design Kristen Rengren designs original vintage-inspired knitwear, and updates vintage knitting patterns for modern use.
Kristen is the author of Vintage Baby Knits – More than 40 Heirloom Patterns from the 1920s to the 1950s (Stewart Tabori & Chang, 2009), a bestselling book of knitting patterns for children. In addition to her independent work, Kristen has also designed for Interweave, Vogue Knitting, Blue Sky Alpacas and Vermont Organic Fiber Company. She is releasing her own line of independently published original patterns that will debut in fall/winter 2009, featuring garments and accessories for both adults and children.
Kristen's work as a designer is inspired and informed by her experiences as a long-time collector of vintage clothing and ephemera and as a former vintage clothing dealer. She also collects vintage knitting patterns, and her collection includes thousands of patterns spanning from the 1920s to the 1950s.
Kristen blogs about her design work and about vintage knitting at her website, http://www.retroknit.net. The Retroknit blog includes several tutorials, including the Knitting Vintage tutorial series, which provides detailed instructions and advice on updating and resizing vintage patterns to fit the modern figure.
