Crossed Purposes Welcome to my world of Needlework and life in general. Grab a 'cuppa' and sit back to enjoy the antics of Kasey Kay, my Golden Retriever assistance dog, and Chetter-bug, my Himalayan cat.
My interests includes all types of creativity, mixed media, digital art, journaling, free machine embroidery etc.
A Bridging Arts project bringing together people, cultures and ideas through embroidery. Working in south London with Muslim women and the Royal School of Needlework. Funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and shortly to be launching new sewing packs....
Through the study of traditional British embroidery and Islamic patterns, we hope to increase understanding of the way cultures interact and histories intertwine.
This project, Stitch Wandsworth, has been running through the year, as groups of Muslim and non Muslim women in Wandsworth, south London, have been studying traditional patterns and creating new embroidery.
Now, inspired by work created, we are launching four new embroidery packs. The classes are led by Bridging Arts: embroidery tuition is by the Royal School of Needlework.
Accompanying these classes is an exhibition of previous work created. It includes traditional work, pieces loaned by participants with their stories, as well as the new embroidery.
Bridging Arts is a not for profit arts organisation based in London but working across the UK.
Creative Embroidery Anyone that enjoys using stitching and embroidery as a tool for fine art. Machine stitching is great, as long as it is free motion and the hand stitching doesn't use someone else's design or pattern. ;)
