Mama'ing, Studying, Changing, Being... I'm a single mama and a graduate student in a PhD program. The "soc" can stand for sociology (my program) or social (me) - take your pick. I have three daughters who are pre-teen and teenagers. It's a crazy life. I originally started this blog because I wanted to connect with other mamas who were mama'ing it while in graduate school and other mamas who are, well, like me in some way. But then I got busy and never wrote anything on the blog again for almost a year :/.
Then I attended a training on how to run a campaign. You see, besides being a single mama, a graduate student, and so on, I'm an activist. I care an awful lot about social justice, and right now, particularly about Marriage Equality and the dismantling of the oppression faced by lesbians, gays, bisexuals, and transgendered persons. One of the things I learned at this event was that I really needed to be writing and blogging - not just organizing in the more practical ways (phone-banks, meetings, etc.). So I decided that I would start another blog - a social justice blog. But at the same time I realized that I needed to return to my roots - I needed to write about "me." And me is a mama who is mama'ing, studying, changing (my self and hopefully the world) and being. So here goes...
And I thought, "damn I gots to write 1000 words now?" hehe 1300 later...
Blogging about life at our house, our journey to a green and self-sustaining household, and whatever else seems interesting enough to share.
