The 11th pass on Pern has just started, for over a hundred years the dragonriders have been in hiding. Plagues scoured Pern of its inhabitants and only a few Holds are clinging still to existence. Ponaa Weyr is the last of Pern's once mighty association of Weyrs.
Far in the Southern Continent, where is warm and isolated, Ponaa's dragonriders hide. Holders have not seen any dragons in over fifty years. Most think they are gone entirely.
The only Queen has just risen for the first time and everyone is waiting on baited breath to see how the clutch comes out. Less than fifty dragons are left in existence.
What our characters don't know is that a small group of fanatics has been poisoning the dragons for generations, so even with the onset of Fall, the clutches are not increasing.
What will happen to Pern? What will happen to her dragons? Are these the last or will the last Queen save the future of her kind?
