RING DESCRIPTION: The Southern Girls Convention is an annual grassroots meeting of pro-woman activists devoted to empowering women and girls in the South, and discussing Southern culture, views and stereotypes of the South, and the struggle for social justice. Each year's convention is hosted by a different Southern community and facilitated by local organizers who manage fundraising, facilities, entertainment, the website, and more. The participants themselves facilitate workshops and discussions, and share ideas, learn new skills, and have fun as a community. The Southern Girls Convention supporters webring is an online community of people who support SGC.{;}{;}Southern Girls Convention has been held in Memphis, Tennessee, Louisville, Kentucky, and Auburn, Alabama. Southern Girls Convention has been held in Memphis TN, Louisville KY, Auburn AL, and Athens GA. This year, the fifth annual Southern Girls Convention will be held in Swannanoa, North Carolina. As in years past, we hope that SGC will provide a space to share skills, meet others working on the issues we care about, explore various issues affecting the South, and strategize on how to organize and make positive changes in our communities.
