Rubik’s Cube: Still As Frustrating and Entertaining As Ever

You remember the Rubik’s Cube—that frustrating yet strangely fun and addictive little cube of multi-colored little cubes that seemed impossible to line up and became a crazy big hit in the late 80’s. While they’re not quite as popular as they used to be, they are still around and now considered a retro toy; they are gaining the attention of a whole new generation.

The Rubik’s Cube as we know it was invented by Reno Rubik in 1974 but didn’t make it onto shelves for sale until 1988 and was an instant hit with both children and adults of all ages and especially with the geeks who took it as far as hitting the tournament circuit dedicated to completing the cube in record time!

For those who haven’t had the frustrating pleasure yet, here’s how it works. The cube has six sides with six different colors; yellow, orange, green, red, white and blue, which are moved around to solve the puzzle where the aim is to turn each side into a block color. Each side has nine separate cubes that make up the face, each side can move independently making the movement of the cube to complete the puzzle so much harder!!
Not many people are able to complete the puzzle and some people take up wards of ten years to play the game, picking it up and having a go from time to time but putting it down with frustration. It is then normally left in a drawer some where or put in the attic for years before being found and another attempt to solve it is begun. In the January of two thousand and nine a count was made of the selling records of the Rubik Company, they claim that over three hundred and fifty million Rubik’s cubes have been bought, which makes the Rubik’s cube the best selling puzzle toy of all time since records began.

The Rubik’s cube is actually a mathematical game disguised as a toy. The correct solution to making all of the sides the right color cannot in fact be solved by sheer luck although some people have claimed that this has happened! But the experts do say that if you are good at maths then you do posses the knowledge to solve the puzzle. It all comes down to algorithms and there are several for each cube within the faces that make up the cube! Well I don’t know about you but all of that sounds far too complicated to me and I will keep trying to be one of those people that will keep getting frustrated and eventually solve it by sheer luck! Well I hope so, I don’t know about you?! But if math’s and algorithms’ is your thing then once you have studied the Rubik’s cube and done a whole multitude of equations (don’t forget to bring plenty of paper!), then you will find the answer…hopefully anyway.

You can look online for the answer, there are a few sites that offer to tell you the correct way to beat the puzzle and solve the age old answer to the Rubik’s cube. But where would be the fun in that? The real sense of satisfaction comes from solving the puzzle all on your own and showing your parents that you can do it—like you’ve been trying to for the last twenty years!!

So if you want to try the best puzzle you will ever get your hands on and will last more than likely a lifetime if not more then buy yourself a Rubik’s cube and join the millions of frustrated people all over the world!
