Last Hope Weyr
Pern was ours once, but is no longer. I am Wingsecond T'rai, or was a wingsecond. I am one of those they refer to as the 'Lost'. Our story is nothing glamourous, we were simply coming home. Coming home from a gather, when we crossed path with a storm. At the exact moment we were about to jump /between/, lightening flashed. We didn't think anything of it, not until we landed and learned we had travelled 15 Turns ahead in time. It was a bit to take in. All at once I lost my rank, my weyr, and was plunged into a world of strangers and those I did know, I barely could tell they were the peopel I had left behind. I suppose I was one of the lucky ones. Some never even made it out of /between/. The worldwe had left behind was one of a single Weyr and very few dragonpairs. Plus we had very little experience fighting Thread. This place we appeared in has changed so much. There are three Weyrs, and a vigorous growing dragon population. And Thread. . . it falls hard and heavy. I don't know if I will be able to adapt, and I am strong. I fear for those weaker then I, I fear our first real Threadfall. I am a rider for Last Hope Weyr, and may Faranth help us.

DragonRiders of Pern - A Fantasy-Fiction Writing Club
DragonRiders is a creative writing club based on Anne McCaffrey's "Dragonriders of Pern"(R) novels. Our members create characters, write stories and interact via email lists. Our stories are set in various locations on the Southern Continent, in an alternate Ninth Pass (non-AIVAS) timeline, following "traditional" Pern canon. We are a full post, play-by-email club active since Jan. '96 with Anne McCaffrey's permission.

Crying Weyr
Forty years ago in Fort Weyr, Weyrleader Z\'ran rules Fort peacefully and gently. He was a kind leader, and wih his brother, R\'yan, and Z\'ran\'s infant child, Marak, what could go wrong? A queen had just clutched when that fateful day happened. Benden\'s Weyrleader went corrupt and so did 4 other Weyrleaders. They formed a dark army of dragonriders and attacked the other Weyrs. A great war broke out. Z\'ran died and so did the Weyrwoman of Fort. In the final battle against the remains of the Darkriders, the new Weyrleader R\'yan and a handful of riders finished the Darkriders off and won the war. The only survivors were Weyrleader R\'yan, baby Marak, a handful of riders, and a queen egg. R\'yan renamed Fort to Crying Weyr, for the tears that were shed that fateful day....... Now 31 years later to the present day R\'yan is still alive, but has retired as Weyrleader. Marak, or should I say Weyrleader M\'rak, has taken leadership. The Weyrwoman, Kina, had died in birth, giving M\'rak a son. His son is now 12, and is now a canidate. There is one gold weyrling, soon to graduate, that remains. With a queen ready to graduate, and no threats, then what could go wrong in a world? Somewhere, a few Darkriders had survived that battle, and their numbers a growing. Their gold had just died, and now they needed a new one to keep growing. And M\'rak thought he had nothing to fear from, right?

Victory\'s End Weyr
Victory’s End Weyr was established as a testament to the Dragonriders’ victory over the menace of Thread. Pern had been spore-free for 500 turns, and this was celebrated by the completion of the massive Weyr. As the envy of Pern, Victory’s End opened with a huge gather to which all residents of the continents were invited. But the festivitied went awry when Thread began falling once again... In the midst of the chaos, senior queen Crysanthemuth rose. She and her suitors raced across the skies, only to be burned by the terrible spores as they rained destruction down on Pern. She was caught by the ambitious Neroth, but as they began their descent, they winked in and out of Between together to freeze the thread that was ravaging their bodies. Crysanthemuth was severely injured in the process, to the point that she lost flight for many months after. The Weyrwoman, Circe, lost sight in her right eye, and Pern was rocked by the realization that the Red Star had returned. When Crysanthemuth’s deformed clutch hatched, many of the dragons were larger and more colorful than the traditional dragonets. They came in a variety of colors ranging from iolite to tourmaline. The new hatchlings ignited a storm of controversy and Victory’s End Weyr suddenly became the pariah of the Southern Weyrs. The most traditional of the Weyrs, Southern Weyr, was enraged that Crysanthemuth had laid such a clutch and demanded that the new dragons be tossed out. Although Victory’s End has so far refused, Southern Weyr has been unrelentless in its pursuit to see the iolite queen and her siblings be removed from power.
