My wife and I have always wanted a log home and just could never afford the one that we realy liked. I started off designing houses and so I designed the house of our dreams and tried to find out what it would cost as a log house. The cost was way more than we could afford so I started looking into geting the log look at non log prices. Then my family and I went to Minnesota on a fishing trip and stayed in a log cabin. It had all sorts of beautiful log furniture in it, and I fell in love with the thought of building log furniture. So I started looking around on the internet as to where I could come up with these beautiful logs. Unknowingly, that they where in my back yard. I live in eastern Iowa, about 20 minutes from the Mississippi River. I\'ve lived in this town my whole life and I don\'t plan to ever leave. I talked to a friend of mine that works with planting trees in our area and I mentioned the cedar log furniture to him and he informed me that the Eastern Red Cedar is native to our area. I went out into the woods and found exactly what I was looking for. The beautiful red cedar. Just the smell of red cedar in the woods really pushed me into making log furniture. I started talking to my dad and we decided to go ahead and purchase some tools that where needed for making furniture and off I went. Cutting trees was the first thing we had to do. So we got a chainsaw and went out into the timber to find the perfect trees to make my first log bed. After that the rest is history. Below is the first log bed bed I ever made. Not bad for the first try.
