Pontiac Firebird

In the history of the American automotive industry, there have been few select cars that have considerable staying power and can make people react just by mentioning their names. This type of legacy is what automakers dream about when they are designing a new car but for the most part it is an elusive goal. To become a classic car, you need to have the right timing and the right combination of style and power. Somehow Pontiac was able to do this with its legendary muscle car: the Pontiac Firebird.

The pontiac firebird is considered one of the most desirable cars to this day. Often referred to as the ultimate muscle car, the Pontiac Firebird is an amazing car to drive. With its smooth steering, excellent power, and impeccable style, the pontiac firebird has ingrained itself in the heart of America. Viewed as the ultimate manly car, the pontiac firebird has become well known for its notable appearances in a number of movies and TV shows. The Pontiac Firebird was famously used in the hit show, Knight Rider, where it was used to portray the robotic car KIT that combined with David Hasselhoff to solve the crimes of their day. The Pontiac Firebird has also appeared in numerous racing movies like the Cannonball Run movies, which is one of the biggest reasons why the pontiac firebird continues to be one of the most highly sought after cars in the market.

1967-1969 Pontiac Firebird

For many firebird fanatics, the ultimate Pontiac Firebird is a car that was produced in its initial release. The first generation of the pontiac firebird lasted from 1967 to 1969 and left an indelible mark on the muscle car marketplace. The 1967 firebird is a startling vehicle that has a classic styling that resembles a coke-bottle. With integrated bumpers at its front end and rear ďslitĒ taillights, the 67 firebird was able to differentiate itself from other muscle cars like the Chevrolet Camaro or the Pontiac GTO.

While the Pontiac Firebird would go on to leave a considerable legacy, it is funny that it wasnít initially a priority for Pontiacís parent company, General Motors. Originally a consolation prize given to Pontiac, the engineers and designers of Pontiac went to diligent work in crafting a unique vehicle that used the popular F body platform of its time. Powered by a V8 engine and with significant style, the 1967 firebird would go from corporate afterthought to one of GMís most successful cars at the time.

The first generation of the pontiac firebird would be such a success that Pontiac only made minor changes in its 1968 pontiac firebird. However, realizing that the automotive market is so competitive that staying stagnant can ultimately destroy a carís success, Pontiac dutifully went to work in crafting its 1969 firebird. The 69 firebird featured a newly redesigned front end that contained an Endura bumper. Within the bumper were the carís headlights and grilles. The changes from the 1967 firebird to the 1969 firebird donít end with changes made in the carís exterior. Inside the 69 firebird, Pontiac moved the ignition switch to the steering column as a way to introduce the latest in General Motorís automotive technology Ė a locking ignition switch/steering wheel. Additional changes made in the 69 firebirdís interior include revisions in its steering wheel and instrument panel.

Pontiac Firebird Logo

Considering its immense style and excellent power, you would just assume that the pontiac firebird is legendary on its own. However, one of the most enduring things about the pontiac firebird has little to do with the car itself Ė rather, it was the beautiful and rebellious firebird logo that helped cement the pontiac firebird as the cool car to drive. First added on the 1969 firebird, the Pontiac Firebirdís logo has become one of the most iconic logos of its time. A popular tattoo today, the pontiac firebird logo had an electric effect on the car itself. It also helped its driver project an aura of cool, which is one of the biggest reasons why we buy cars, anyway.

The Pontiac firebird logo is a simple logo that reflects its name. The centerpiece of the pontiac logo is a black bird with their wings spread out. The bird looks majestic, especially since it is surrounded by crimson red that represent the fire part of the firebird equation. The firebird logo is shaped in a V type shape, except it extends down in the middle where the birdís tail resides. Instantly recognizable, the pontiac firebird logo holds a special place in the hearts of car lovers. Its undeniably cool appeal is just one of the many things that make the pontiac firebird such a classic automobile.

While the pontiac firebird blazed through its competitors when it was initially released in 1967, it has become such an iconic vehicle for its considerable staying power. After some delays in which Pontiac was determined to maintain the high standards of the first generation of the firebird while adding some new twists, the second generation of the -pontiac firebird was introduced in mid-1970. This new generation of the Pontiac generation would go on to become a massive hit until new government regulations pertaining to emissions and fuel efficiency forced Pontiac to release a new generation of firebirds. From 1982 to 1992, the third generation of the Pontiac firebird has valiantly kept the firebird name a recognizable one for new generations of car lovers. However, the pontiac firebird would eventually be discontinued in 2002 after the release of the fourth generation of the firebird in 1993. Although there has been speculation that Pontiac may reintroduce a new generation of Pontiac Firebirds, many pontiac firebird owners are more then willing to allow their cars appreciate in value.

One of the biggest concerns that people have about the pontiac firebird is the availability of car parts.
