Feminist Platform for Obama
This is an evolving document authored by a subgroup of members of Feminists for Obama. The platform is a result of months of discussions via listserve during the candidacies of Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama for president. Central issues of the Feminist Platform for Obama include abortion, education, college for women with children, childcare, confronting the rapist nature of our culture, and reconceptualizing the basic unit of American life. No longer is it accurate to discuss "the family" as a baseline for taking the temperature of this country. The Feminist Platform for Obama proposes that "A Powered Woman" belongs in the center of the circle. Envisioning and creating structures to support A Powered Woman will put the U.S. on the road to renewed vitality, sustainability, and a functioning democracy.
