Anxiety comes in varying forms; it can be an anxiety or panic attack, obsessive compulsive disorder, ADD or ADHD, and depression. Anxiety can cause many health problems, and can also be misunderstood for a serious health problem such as a heart attack. There are many signs of anxiety including phobias, sleeping problems, obsessive compulsive disorder, and digestive problems.

Sings of anxiety

One of the signs of anxiety is feeling as if you are having a heart attack. Often times when one experiences panic or anxiety they will feel a tightening in their chests that may feel like a heart attack. People with anxiety often feel like they are going crazy, dying, or like they are afraid of something. It is important to get diagnosed properly before taking any medications, you could think that you are having a heart attack and have your doctor prescribe heart medication while you don’t have any heart problems at all. Tell your doctor about your stresses and your daily life so that he can properly diagnose you.

Another one of the signs of anxiety is phobias, not just a fear; a phobia is a paralyzing, overwhelming emotion that can often lead to panic. Symptoms of phobias include rapid heart rate, sweating, and difficulty catching your breath. It is estimated that about 19 million adults in the United States have at least one phobia, making it one of the most common psychiatric conditions. It is assumed that phobias usually develop during childhood.

Obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD)

One of the most difficult signs of anxiety is coping with OCD. OCD is when you have obsessive thoughts and behaviors. They often feel that there are things they need to do over and over such as washing their hands, checking the locks, counting steps, or even pulling out their own hair. They don’t know why they do it but they think that they have to in order to go on with their day. OCD is a serious sign of an anxiety disorder and has lead to divorce, injuries, and even suicide. People with OCD usually know they are suffering from it but do not know that it is considered an anxiety disorder and that it can be helped. Often times OCD starts when a person is a child and progressively gets worse as they grow into adulthood.

The difference between anxiety and panic

There are many different signs of anxiety that people suffer from but it is important to understand the difference between panic and anxiety. Anxiety is feeling like you can’t sit still, like you have to move around, or the feeling of dread. Panic is an unsettling fear of something that cannot be calmed down by rational thinking. Instead the panic gets worse and starts making the person feel as if they are going to die.

Digestive problems

Anxiety can cause a number of health related problems such as digestive problems. Excessive stress and anxiety can cause ulcers, diarrhea, irritable bowel syndrome, nausea, and vomiting.
