Anxiety attacks are very common among adults and teens and can interrupt your daily life and even end relationships. Learning to control an anxiety attack will help reduce the number of attacks you have and can stop them while you are having one.
What is an anxiety attack?

Everyone feels some sense of anxiety because of everyday situations such as pressure at work, family situations, money troubles, etc. An anxiety attack is when you feel anxiety and panic over an irrational situation and keeps escalating and no amount of rational thinking can stop it. Some of the symptoms of an anxiety attack sweating, shaking, headaches, backaches, migraines, tingling and numbness in the fingers, racing heart, pounding pulse, dizziness, feeling of chocking, and feeling like you are having a heart attack, dying, or going crazy.

Phobias are associated with an anxiety attack because a person can often be so afraid of something that it sends them into a very scared state called an anxiety attack. People suffering from anxiety attacks often cannot be calmed down, however there are many techniques that can be practiced when you feel an attack coming on or during the anxiety attack. The most common phobias involve things like compulsive hand washing, checking locks and clocks obsessively, and not being able to do certain things like travel on a certain road or not being able to face a certain situation. It is normal to have some fears but phobias are much worse, phobias can disrupt daily lives and cause the person to go into an anxiety attack or panic attack.
 
Can anxiety disorders be treated?

Doctors can recommend therapy and prescribe medication if needed. There are some coping techniques that can stop an anxiety attack in its tracks and can help prevent them as well.

Breathing techniques

Breathing during an anxiety attack will help it to stop and help you to regain control. Take deep breaths in through your nose and exhale out through the mouth. Do this over and over again until you feel calmer.

Controlling worry

Pick a place and a certain time to worry, think about all of your concerns and what you can do to fix them. Try not to dwell on things and worry about what might happen. Do this every day as needed at the same time and the same place each time.

Trying different ways to relax

Different techniques you can try include doing yoga, meditation, deep breathing exercises, and muscle relaxation. You can do muscle relaxation by choosing a muscle, hold it tight for a few seconds and then relax it. Start with your feet and work you up through your body until you have worked all of your muscles.

Other ways to relax

Exercise regularly because this can give you a general sense of well being, get plenty of sleep, and confront things that may have made you anxious in the past.

Learning to control you anxiety attacks will definitely calm down your anxiety and panic in order to help you live a more normal life.
