Julia Roberts Buys Land From Donald Rumsfeld

News have recently leaked out revealing that superstar actress, Julia Roberts, have purchased a large tract of land from United States Secretary of Defense, Donald Rumsfeld in an area known as Des Montes in Taos, New Mexico.

Roberts has recently made headlines after giving birth to twins – Phinnaeus Walter and Hazel Patricia.  The father of those babies is Daniel Moder, a cameraman who met Roberts a few years back during the filming of the absolutely horrendous, The Mexican.  At least one good thing came out of the movie – and that was the love spark generated between Roberts and Moder.  The two were married on Robert’s Taos ranch on Independence Day, 2002.

The 32-acre land purchased by Roberts is adjacent to the 80-acres she owns which features her majestic ranch.  The utterly ridiculous People Magazine, they have labeled the purchase “a baby gift to herself”.  Perhaps so, but to real estate investors, Roberts have made a sound acquisition for the prime piece of real estate.  Although she doesn’t need the money, the beautiful piece of property should only appreciate with her presence.  Which is probably why she purchased it – to add more space between her and her family from the increasing hordes of fans and paparazzi who continually infringe on her privacy.

According to People, real estate in the area ranges from $110,000 to $125,000 per acre.  Thus they speculate that the property transaction is probably worth several million dollars.  Actual figures were not disclosed.  Roberts and Rumsfeld have known each other for some time now, ever since Roberts began spending more time in Taos, where both were neighbors.  Rumsfeld attended Robert’s wedding.

Although Roberts has tried to be out of the spotlight over the last couple of years to get married and have children, she remains highly popular, and is regarded as one of the best and most highly paid actresses working today.  Roberts is currently headlining two movies out in cinemas today – Closer and Ocean’s 12.  She has starred in such blockbusters like Steel Magnolias (1989 – earned Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress), Pretty Woman (1990), The Pelican Brief (1993), My Best Friend’s Wedding (1997), Notting Hill (1999), Erin Brockovich (2000 – won Oscar for Best Actress), Ocean’s 11 (2001), and Mona Lisa Smile (2003).

Donald Rumsfeld is one of the most controversial figures in the Bush administration, who is entering his second term as Secretary of Defense.  This would be his third term as Secretary of Defense as he had served under President Gerald Ford's administration from 1975-79, which at the time made him the youngest person ever to hold that distinguished post.  An unapologetic hawk, Rumsfeld played a pivotal role in the U.S. invasion of Afghanistan and Iraq following the September 11th terrorist attacks.  He has recently come under fire for sending US troops over to Iraq without adequate body armor.
