Parents Day
For many years families didn’t
really know what to do. There was
always a Mother’s Day, which is a great holiday designed to celebrate mothers
of the country. And there is a Father’s
Day, which is also a fantastic holiday, this time celebrating the fathers of
the country. However, a void
existed. Surely, there should be a
holiday that celebrated both parents on a single day, without having to
sacrifice the shine that the individual parents get on their designated
holidays.
That’s when President Bill Clinton stepped in.
Noticing that there was something, he used his presidential abilities to
create a holiday and in 1994 signed into law the creation of Parents Day. Without any opposition from the American
congress, Parents Day has been celebrated since 1994 and the parents of America
couldn’t be any happier.
The fourth Sunday of every
July is set aside for Parents’ Day and is an excellent opportunities for
families to get together, laugh, and celebrate those underrated pillars of the family:
the parents. The Congressional
Resolution that passed Parent’s Day into law established this day as a time for
”recognizing, uplifting, and supporting the parents in the rearing of children.”
Since it’s a relatively new
holiday, there is no set tradition to Parents Day. However, since all of us have parents, the day is a perfect
opportunity to visit our parents or to at least give them some thought. Designed to celebrate the family structure that
is responsible for the development of good Americans, Parents Day is a day that
kids give their parents a much deserved pat on the back. For parents, it’s a day where you can sit
back, relax, and enjoy the adulation that you should be getting on an everyday
basis.
With Parents Day, the goal
is to reiterate the family ideal. One
ways to give your parents an excellent Parents Day is to take them out for a
trip. Getting away from the day-to-day
parental responsibilities and enjoying excellent family time is a gift that all
parents will treasure. Another way to
celebrate Parents Day is to give your parents a day to themselves. Free your parents from their everyday
burdens by cleaning the house, making them dinner, and just let them relax.
As time goes on, new challenges pop up for parents. If you’re just a child, parents have to constantly worry about
your safety and educate you in becoming a good and responsible person. For teenagers, parents also have to worry
about your safety but must strike a delicate balance between providing you with
support without constricting your burgeoning individuality. For adults, parents are a never ending
pillar of support. Always there to lend
you money in case you need it, the job of a parent never seems to end.
For this reason, children should take Parents Day seriously. An excellent opportunity to return the
unconditional love that they have for us, Parents Day is great. Happy Parents Day!
