Halloween
Every October 31st, you can’t help but
notice stumbling around your street at night that there’s an awfully large
number of kids outside dressed in a number of crazy costumes. That’s because
October 31st is Halloween, one of the most popular holidays in the
history of holidays!
Halloween is a fun time for everybody. Kids love it
because they get to dress up as ghosts, vampires, witches, zombies, and other
scary Halloween costumes. They also get to carve out pumpkins in a scary
manner, while going from door to door asking strangers, "trick or
treat." For the most part, these strangers say treat and provide these
children with some delicious, delicious candy. Of course, the Halloween
hi-jinks don’t just stop there. There are Halloween games to be played, crafts
to be made, and a house to be redecorated to scare people.
Once you get a little bit older, Halloween is also a fun time. Although you
can’t really go around the neighborhood asking people for candy, you can do the
next best thing: go to a raging Halloween party. Halloween parties are the best
because you get to see all of your friends dressed up in costumes. These
Halloween costumes don’t necessarily fit into the same category of costumes
that you had when you were younger, but some popular Halloween costumes this
year for the older set include: a pimp, a ho, Metrosexual Satan, Effeminate
George W. Bush, and of course the classic, Wilt Chamberlain.
While Halloween is a time of fun and games, there are some important safety
precautions that one has to take. Although the movie Bowling for Columbine
disproved this urban myth, it’s still important for kids to be careful with the
candy that they collect from strangers. Additionally, if a person gives you a
pencil or a pen as your Halloween treat, instead of getting angry, you should
realize that you’re pretty lucky to be celebrating a holiday where you get to
go around the neighborhood and get free stuff. So don’t mess it up by glowering
kid.
A major concern that parents have when getting their kids ready for Halloween
is their safety wondering the roads. Although most drivers are extremely
cautions on Halloween, it still helps if you make sure that your children has a
Halloween costume that can be seen in the dark. However, if they have a
particularly great costume that can only be in dark colors, you have to realize
that sometimes you have to sacrifice a bit of safety for a great costume.
As Halloween approaches, many people are still scrambling to get those
Halloween treats for those little visitors that will be knocking on their
demanding some swag. Chocolate is always a great treat to hand out on
Halloween, although peanuts have become a pretty big scare and should be
avoided. Potato chips are also great, as are miscellaneous candies. Hard candy,
although appreciated, generally don’t go over so well with the kids. If you
can’t be home for Halloween, you can always leave a bowl out on your porch for
your little visitors. However, kids, you should understand that this
arrangement is an introduction to the honor system and you should play by those
rules. Have a happy Halloween everyone!
