Grapefruit Diet

When it comes to fighting the right diet plan for you, it is important to balance how quickly a diet will help you lose weight with how healthy a diet actually is.  It can get a bit crazy reading about some diets.  There are many interesting diets out there and one such diet is The Grapefruit Diet.

Commonly called the Hollywood Diet, the grapefruit diet can trace back its origins to 1930’s Hollywood.  Throughout its history, it has gained popularity.  Often referred to as a fad diet, the grape fruit diet is a 12 day diet that has often been called the Mayo Clinic Grapefruit Diet.  However, the actual Mayo Clinic has very little to do with the Grapefruit Diet.

The 12day Grapefruit Diet is known for allowing its users to quickly lose a large amount of weight in a short period of time.  There are a number of variations of the Grapefruit Diet, but all of them share the same trait.  Dieters have to eat grapefruit and drink grapefruit juice regularly.  Additionally, some dieters are known to swallow grapefruit capsules.

Considering that grapefruits are known being a great source of fiber, Vitamin C, and other important nutrients, it is easy to see why eating grapefruits regularly is a great thing to do to be healthy.  However, the Grapefruit Diet works on the theory that grapefruits contain a special enzyme that is particularly effective in burning off fat.

Within the diet, you have to drink at least 64 ounces of water a day.  Additionally, you have to follow a specific set of meals and must not allow yourself to snack between meals.  Additionally, it is highly recommended that you eat your meals until you feel full.  Theoretically, the Grapefruit Diet ensures that the more you eat will equate to more weight loss.

In the Grapefruit Diet, it is common to eat either a half of a grapefruit or drink eight ounces of unsweetened grapefruit juice for each meal.  For breakfast, it is recommended that you eat two eggs and two slices of bacon.   A common Grapefruit Diet lunch meal will include a meat meal with a salad.  For dinner, you eat any type of meat or fish meal that you want with a salad.  You may also drink a cup of coffee or tea with your dinner meal.

Proponents of the Grapefruit Meal recommend that you follow the Grapefruit Diet for 12 days then stop for a couple of days.  After this rest period, you can continue for the 12 Day Grapefruit Diet again for another 12 days.  While there are often claims of losing up to 50 pounds with the Grapefruit Diet, many health experts are skeptical.

While these nutritionists agree that the grapefruit diet helps to reduce your body’s blood sugar levels, which helps your body quickly burn fat, they are concerned with the Grapefruit Diet’s low caloric intake.  Additionally, many health experts dismiss the fat burning capabilities of the Grapefruit Diet.  However, there are many proponents for the Grapefruit Diet.  If you are interested, it’s always worth a try.  Who knows, maybe the Grapefruit Diet will be your first step to a healthier life!
