America’s Next Top Model

As one of the most glamorous jobs that a person can ever have, modeling is a job that many people seek to enter.  Although you obviously have to be attractive to obtain a position modeling, it is often a wonder how people attain the honorary title of supermodel.  The world is full of attractive people that aren’t models and it seems like a successful profession in modeling is one that comes with a great deal of luck and good business sense.

UPN’s highly rated reality TV show, America’s Next Top Model, shows how strenuous it is to become one of the top models in the world.  Hosted by Tyra Banks, one of the world’s most successful models and a very beautiful woman, America’s Next Top Model pits twelve participants against each other for the title of America’s Next Top Model.  The twelve contestants live together in a New York City loft and undergo a vigorous training where they are educated on what is needed to become an excellent model.

The winner of this show not only receives the title of America’s Next Top Model but an excellent Grand Prize package that includes the opportunity to be managed by the prestigious IMG Models, home to some of the world’s most recognized and beautiful models.  Additionally, the Grand Prize package includes an opportunity to be featured on the cover of a Sephora catalogue and a fashion spread in Jane magazine.

As the creator and executive producer of America’s Next Top Model, Tyra Banks plays a major role on the show.  Shown giving tips and guiding the contestants through the various stages of the show, Tyra Banks is also giving America a window into the often cutthroat world of professional modeling.

On each show of America’s Next Top Model, one contestant is dismissed.  Similar to The Apprentice in this manner, this aspect of the show is responsible for the show’s drama.  However, it is not just Tyra Banks that is responsible for deciding who is sent home.  Rather, a number of judges help to make this decision including: Janice Dickinson, one of the world’s first supermodels; Eric Nicholson, the senior editor of Jane Magazine; Nigel Barker, renowned high fashion photographer; and Jay Manuel, one of the most highly regarded make-up artist and photo director in the modeling industry.

With this much insight from modeling experts, it is easy to see why America’s Next Top Model is such a success.  The fact that the strain from living and competing with each other leads to some deliciously catty and surreal moments between the contestants are great.  Additionally, the sassy comments provided by the judges are fun to see.  But at the end of the day, America’s Next Top Model is all about modeling and the crowning of the future savior of America’s modeling industry.
