Irritating as They Are, They’re Still Your Family
Your family can be a source of all kinds of things for you,
especially during your teen years. They can be a source of embarrassment, a
source of anger, a source of frustration and even a source of sheer rage, but
you also have to remember that they are your most important source of love and
support.
Being a teenager goes between being incredible to being hard
just as easily and quickly as day goes to night…okay, quicker. Being caught
somewhere an adult and, well, a kid means a lot of confusion and uncertainty. Stuff
like school and friends take priority and sometimes can even just start to take
over your whole life, or so it will seem. This is why you need to remember the
good things about your family; as embarrassing and irritating as they are. They
really are the ones who will have your back when things are going wrong, more
so than any chum ever will.
Your family should be the ones that you feel you can turn to
for anything, but when it comes to being a teen, there will be quite a few
times where your family may not be who you feel the most comfortable turning
to. Since this is the age when things like sex, peer pressure and drug and
alcohol issues could start being a problem, it’s understandable that you may be
uncomfortable about turning to them or just scared of getting in trouble. It’s at
times like these that you need to know that you still have other options. The
last thing you should ever do when you’re feeling like things are out of
control or feeling scared is to keep it to yourself. If you’re not going to
turn to your family and friends, then know what the options are. There are all
kinds of resources available that were created specifically for kids and teens.
If you’re dealing with something in your life that has you
upset or concerned, then you need to find someone to talk to. There are
telephone numbers for teen and kids help lines that you can call 24 hours a
day, seven days a week when you need someone to talk to about anything at all. These
numbers are usually listed in the first few pages of the telephone book. If you
don’t feel comfortable calling, maybe for a lack of privacy or whatever, then
you can go the internet route instead. There are hundreds of websites dedicated
to teens and they are packed with information about issues that you may be struggling
with. Not only can you find a bunch of great information to read on these
sites, but you can also get access to other numbers to call when you’re ready,
as well as addresses to help centers in your community and a bunch of other
resources that might of interest.
Remember that in the end, no matter how bad a situation
seems, you do have somewhere to turn even when you don’t think your family is
an option. As for them being embarrassing, infuriating and all that; they’re
still your family and you can be sure that they’ll be there for you no matter
what.
